A curious mind
At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked ceramic artist Elizabeth Lewis to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.

What have you called your series of artworks?
– It’s called Curiosity Garden. Together, these works create a feeling of what you might find in a curiosity cabinet or in a sculpture garden. Or both.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
– Balanced, explorative, biomorphic.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– Throughout my childhood, I always did art just for the fun of it. I started my professional career as a makeup artist, but then I began studying Fine Arts in Sydney. Luckily, I enrolled in ceramics courses by chance, which I learned to love. I graduated fine arts in 2020 with minors in ceramics and painting, which both heavily feed into my practice today.
What inspires you?
– The series that I have created for The Ode To is inspired by the meeting of architecture and natural forms of fauna and flora. These aspects, when merged, form a dream-like portrait of our constantly changing environment, and ourselves as a reflection of that environment. I’m also inspired by Hilma af Klint, especially for her open creative process and her use of colour.
