Futuristic craftsmanship
At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Iris Megens to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.
Iris Megens
What do you call your series of artworks?
– “Between the lines.” All objects are drawn with lines consisting of bio-resin. I’ve been painting in the air with a 3D-pen, creating everyday objects like vases or a teapot. A futuristic craft where each piece is unique. It’s special because the desired object is immediately given volume. It literally explores the boundaries of form, between the lines.
What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?
– The 3D technique that I’ve used to create this series of artworks raises fundamental questions; how much material do we need? How lightly can we live? It’s the creative process that inspires me.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– I have a master’s degree in Design, from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, and a bachelor’s degree in Product Design from the Arnhem University of the Arts. Today I run my own design studio. I’m fundamentally a maker. Materials are always at the start of every research, when I create something new.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
– A futuristic craft.
