At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Swedish artist Maria Liffner to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.

What do you call your series of artworks?
– On my way.
What technique have you used?
– I usually work with mixed media, mostly acrylic paint but also oil, sand, crayons, pastels and pencils.
What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?
– Nature is my biggest inspiration. The patterns, the shapes, and the colours that I almost always find there.
What other artists do you admire?
– Mark Rothko. His late work and rectangular, colour-block paintings strongly move me and leave me breathless.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– I’m born in 1959 and I live and work in Gothenburg. I’ve had the privilege of working with art for a long time now. From an early age I’ve had a strong desire to express my creativity in some form and quite early I discovered that it was mainly painting I wanted to do. To constantly look for new paths and finding the right way among unexpected combinations of colours and contrasts is what pushes me forward.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
– Detailed, meditative, geometrical.
