At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Paul Riedmueller to tell us a little bit about his life, his art and his sources of inspiration.
What do you call your series of artwork?
– I've named my collection "3D Flowers" as it captures the essence of my art. Through this series, I explore the illusion of three-dimensionality in two-dimensional paintings, replicating a technique I discovered in Photoshop but in an analog format.
What technique have you used?
– I work exclusively with oil paint for these artworks. The process involves delicately applying liquid oil paint, refining lines, and creating background gradients to achieve the desired effect.
What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?
– I found inspiration in the simplicity of elegance and the allure of vibrant colors.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– I have always been deeply immersed in creative pursuits, be it through playful exploration or the deliberate crafting of tangible art forms, such as drawings, paintings, or wooden sculptures. The joy of holding something in my hands and proudly proclaiming it as my own creation has always been a driving force in my life.
With a foundation in graphic design, I furthered my artistic journey by studying painting at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Today, I use my artistic talents in my job, which is very diverse. Murals, painting, woodworking, graphic design, and illustration.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
– Simply, accessible, complex
