At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Maite Pereda to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.
Maite Pereda
What do you call your series of artworks?
– I'm not sure I have a name to group these works together – they were all created individually and inspired by different elements. But if I had to call it something, it would probably be "Space”, since it’s the biggest thing they share.
What technique have you used?
– I have used many different techniques for this specific series, but mainly acrylics on canvas, linen, or wood. I’ve also used old wood to create frames, for example.
What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?
– I’m always looking for inspiration in the space surrounding the creation of each artwork. I like to transform the architecture of the space and its dimension with colour within the painting.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
– Colourful, dimensional, geometric.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– Both my parents and siblings are active in different creative fields, so you can say I come from a very creative family. My mom has always motivated me and encouraged my artistic side – through my childhood she’s signed me up to countless art classes, So, it only felt natural to keep following that path, go to art school and formally start my artistic career.
What other artists do you admire?
– I must say Bridget Riley. I admire her use of colour and geometry to challenge the extent to which a painting can be seen.
